Does Gender Biases Impact an Addiction Treatment Process?
The Alcohol
Rehabilitation Centre in New Delhi and the Drug
Rehabilitation Centre in New Delhi have many-a-times attended to the
question of the differences in the body and actions of male and female bodies
in the process of addiction treatment. Well, it is a fact that the male body is
largely different from the female body, as women are more likely to face
various barriers in accessing substance abuse treatment unlike the male.
Females also tend to seek care at a primary level in a mental or personal care
setting environment which has no specialised technologies or methodologies
involved which also tend to result in poor outcomes in the last phase. As when
such gender differences in the treatment process is guided or pointed out,
women are also charged highly than the men. Therefore, with a limited research
suggestion there is a serious lack in the upgradement of addiction treatment
process for the female groups and also a lack in the mixed-gender treatment
programs in the country. One therefore should consider the following measures
for the improvement of such standards. They are as follows:
● Improving care
for females who seek a primary mental health care setting
● Increasing the
referral of females to seek specialised methodologies and a specialised
addiction treatment plan
● Identification of
men and women with gender-mixed group intervention programs
● Addressing such
gender-specific risk factors which can indeed increase the amount of treatment
outcomes and initiations in the country.
However, over a certain period of time,
there were several treatment programs on the move which actually paid a sincere
notice to the programs of women and to their special requirements. However,
today although not all, many treatment programs do offer gender-specific
services such as mixed-gender treatment groups availability, gender-matching
sessions with counsellors which are led by both male and female leaders
together, with stating gender-specific treatment content. The Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in New Delhi also
provided many such ancillary or wraparound services for individuals, such as
introduction to child care and parenting group sessions also, which majorly
focuses on the facilitate and change in the women’s processing mind and body
during the period of childbirth and after the period of childbirth. To support
this fact, there are also significant numbers showcasing such treatment
programs serving only women, specifically targeting only pregnant women and at
times adolescent girls with offering of specialised parenting services for both
the parents and for their children also at times.
Research also states that how the
influence of substance abuse affects gender and related issues, clearly
establishes various differences between the men and women body impacting on
various important areas. But, it is stated that women usually consume less
alcohol than men when they do drink, and also drink a lot less than in frequent
terms and are also less likely to develop alcohol-related issues in the body.
Also, same goes with the consumption of drugs, where it is found that men
usually have a tendency to consume and purchase illicit drugs in a large ratio
more than women ofcourse.
